JWUMC Walk Thru Bethlehem

Two years ago MIMI took Aubrey to the Walk Thru Bethlehem that is put on at her church for the entire community one weekend in December. Last year Mike and I took the kids ourselves. This year we decided to try to make it a tradition that we will ALL go together to experience this memorable event. MIMI and the kids anxiously waiting for the doors to open.
As you enter the kids are each given a bag and a map. The map allows them to collect stamps at each station as they 'walk thru Bethlehem' and the bag is for all the goodies they get at each station. The Cheese Station -- They give out pieces of cheese and goldfish. It was such a big hit that we went to this station at least twice! YUM!!!
The Candle Station -- the woman is showing the girls how to hold the wax in your hands to warm it up so they can shape it into a candle.
The Market
The Mosaic Station -- They put pieces of tissue paper on crosses with the adhesive already on it.
The Game Station -- They watched some of the bigger kids play a game of Dreidel.
"Look Mom, a goat."
Being that we were at MIMI's church, she knew many of the wonderful volunteers. The kings were passing out 'gifts' (a.k.a. gold coins) for the kids to take to Baby Jesus.
Giving their gifts to Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus.
It was close to bedtime for "Baby" Jesus so he was pretty sleepy :-)
Continuing on the Walk Thru Bethlehem, to see...
...a camel...
...and to ride on a donkey.
The last stop is to receive a prize for having your map filled out and to have a snack. It takes a lot of work to put this event together and I am very impressed with the details they try to include for authenticity. It is a wonderful teaching experience for people of all ages to learn about what the world was like when our Savior entered it.
